Rusty Sargent is a Computer Forensics Examiner with First Advantage Litigation Consulting, specialists in litigation support services, including computer forensics, electronic data discovery, data recovery services, expert consulting, and fact-finding for litigants.  Rusty came to First Advantage through its acquisition of EvidentData in 2006. Rusty brings to First Advantage twenty-five years of distinguished service as a Detective with the La Mesa Police Department in San Diego, California.  From 1993 to 2004, Rusty investigated computer and high-technology crimes using his expertise as an investigator and a computer forensics examiner in the successful prosecution of cases involving white collar crime, government contractor fraud, medical fraud, theft of trade secrets, network intrusions, and money laundering. 

Rusty was instrumental in the development and implementation of San Diego’s Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory (“RCFL”).  He was actively involved in the development of the San Diego RCFL’s computer-forensics practices which were later adopted as a standard utilized in law enforcement.  Rusty has testified numerous times in California and Arizona courts as a computer forensics expert.

Rusty is currently a staff instructor for the International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists, teaching courses in computer forensics and the development of computer forensics laboratories to international, federal, state, and local law-enforcement.  He has taught computer forensics for the Federal Bureau of Investigation at the FBI Academy and for the San Diego RCFL. 

Rusty earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from National University in San Diego.  He is certified by the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a Computer Forensics Examiner and the California Department of Justice as a Computer Crime Investigator.  He is a founding member of the San Diego chapter of the High Technology Crime Investigation Association and a member of the International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists.
