Problem: Counsel representing the board of directors of a growing technology company was notified of a suspicious message sent from an executive’s e-mail account accusing corporate officers of wrongdoing.

Solution: EvidentData worked closely with in-house IT staff to preserve and analyze server logs and workstation data.  EvidentData also conducted interviews of technical staff in conjunction with the company’s outside counsel.  Evidence showed a former employee had compromised the executive’s e-mail account and employed a retail store’s showroom computer to send the derogatory e-mail message.  In addition, EvidentData helped uncover a co-conspirator’s plan to use proprietary information from the compromised e-mail account to gain favor with a competing company.  EvidentData’s technical expertise and prompt response to this in-house investigation helped outside counsel act quickly to resolve key issues for the board of directors.
